Labor Day 2016, South Florida



Labor Day Weekend in South Florida 2016

Every year, South Florida has fun events Labor Day weekend. 2016 is no different. Check out some of the fun events happening this year.

Marlins vs Phillies
Marlins start a three game home series against division rival, Philadelphia Phillies. Marlins stadium is a beautiful park. Take the family out for a fun day at the ballpark.

SunTrust Jazz Brunch
Downtown Fort Lauderdale has a fun spot called Riverwalk. Riverwalk park has great views of the city and is located on the river that goes through downtown. This event is free to the public and you are allowed to bring pets on a leash. Local jazz artists will be playing the whole time as you enjoy the morning into the early afternoon. Bring your significant other or family and enjoy a relaxing Sunday. Local merchants and restaurants will be selling food and goodies.

50 Cent Bottle Signing
50 Cent will be at Crown Wine & Spirits signing bottles of his Effen Vodka. You buy, he signs. Effen Vodka (about $24 for 750ml) comes in a standard version, and three interesting flavors: cucumber, black cherry and Dutch raspberry ($26). He will be throwing a pool side event Saturday at 3pm at Fontainebleua and performing at Liv nightclub Sunday night.

Non-Profit Awareness & Food Drives

Each week, Bank of America features a non-profit group to raise awareness of their program and goals. We also collect food donations for people and animals in need. Please help Bank of America support these worthy causes. Our goal is to surpass last year’s totals. If every person brought a food item each week, think of the impact we could make! Let’s try for 2,000 items. Non-perishable food donations will benefit The Pantry of Broward and Life Net 4 Families. Pet food donations will benefit Abandoned Pet Rescue.

Rio Vista is one of the best neighborhoods to live in Fort Lauderdale. The homes are beautiful and the beach is minutes away. What is there not to like?! It is a very peaceful neighborhood with beautiful greenery and waterways. There is a great combination of older and newer homes that were built with attractive designs. All the homes from SE 7th St to SE 12th Street have ocean access right from their docks so you can take any size boat out to sea. The community boundaries are US-1 to the West, the Intracoastal Waterway to the East, the New River to the North and SE 12th Street to the South. Fort Lauderdale beach is easily accessible over 17th Street to the South or via Las Olas Blvd. through downtown Fort Lauderdale to the North. Rio Vista has the benefits of living in the city without being downtown.

What's the Neighborhood Like?

The community of Rio Vista is a little over 1,000 homes. The homes can range anywhere from 1,300 sq ft to 7,300 sq ft of living space. Most homes in the neighborhood have a lot of living space which makes it great for a family. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe. There is little through traffic because the people driving are most likely homeowners. A majority of the homes in Rio Vista are waterfront. If you have a boat and like to take it out then Rio Vista is a great neighborhood for you. The canals have great width and average about 125 feet wide. Since they are so wide you have more space for bigger boats. 

Just west of the neighborhood is US-1 which has a lot of shops and restaurants. The shops and restaurants are walking distance from the neighborhood or a very short drive. Rio Vista is in very central location so nothing is too far away. 


What's Going on Nearby the Rio Vista Neighborhood?


Rio Vista Neighborhood is just south of downtown and right in the mix of everything. Walking distance is the famous Las Olas Boulevard. Eat, Shop, Enjoy is the motto! 

Shop:  Moda Mario is a great place to shop for clean cut mens clothing and stylish comfortable womens clothing. Shop 603 Fashion is great place to find ahead of the trend closing. Like art? Las Olas Fine Arts is the place to find paintings, sculptures and other contemporary art.  

Eat: Great food and great drink specials are what make American Social one of the best spots to be on Los Olas. Get anything from a classic New York Strip to a truffle Mac and Cheese. On Monday's they have $5 burgers and trivia, Tuesdays you can get $4 beers and Wednesday it is Ladies night which means half off drinks and bar bites. Not in the mood for classic American food? Head over to Rocco's Tacos. Rocco's Tacos has delicious Mexican food and is of course known for their great tasting tacos. They also have a great happy hour. Daily 4pm-7pm happy hour at the bar that includes 7 por $7 bar bits and $2 off all drinks. Can't beat that! Caffe Europa is a great Italian restaurant with authentic Italian food and a fabulous wine bar. Paninis, Pasta, Pizza, you name it they have it. Can't have pizza since you are gluten free? No need to worry Caffe Europa has gluten free pizza. Some wine with dinner is always a nice treat. They have almost any wine you can think of to go with your dinner. 

Enjoy: Ever gone to a Cycle Party? CP Tours Fort Lauderdale offers Cycle Parties, Bikes, eTrikes, Kayaks and Paddleboards. Stop on by to have some fun with your friends and family. Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi is a fun experience that takes you to different destinations on the river and intracoastal. One of those stops is right on Los Olas Blvd. Fort Lauderdale is a beautiful city and has lots of great scenery. See it all on the Water Taxi. Planet Massage is a relaxation oasis. They offer a Couples Massage, Chair Massage, Aromatherapy Chill Massage and even a Girlfriend Getaway Signature Massage. 

Publix, one of the best grocery stores in the nation is just down the street on 17th Street Causeway. Customer Service is their top priority along with fresh food and a wonderful shopping experience. Publix has it all whether its a made-to-go sub or king snow crabs. 

Las Olas is just one of many things to do in Fort Lauderdale. The beach is only about a mile away and there are numerous things to do like fishing, kayaking and music events. What are some great local restaurants?

There are some great restaurants nearby all within a short five minute drive. Tap42 is a great place to grab a casual lunch or dinner. They are best known for their Sunday brunches that feature bottomless Mimosas, Bloody Mary's and Funky Buddha Floridian. Brunch is from 11am - 3pm! 15th Street Fisheries is a second to none when it comes to seafood! They have won numerous award for being the best Seafood Restaurant in the area. In 2015 they won Best Seafood Restaurant, Best Waterfront Restaurant, Best East Broward Restaurant and Best Romantic Restaurant just to name a few. In short, I am saying you need to go out to each there! On a more casual basis there is Panaretto Pizzeria. They have amazing fresh pizzas and sandwiches. The Godfather pizza is one of their best sellers. It is made of grilled marinated chicken, bacon, lettuce tomato, basil mayonnaise. 


What Schools will the Kids Attend?
