Spirits of Fort Lauderdale: Halloween at the Historic Stranahan House Museum

Annual California Ave. Trick or Treat and Blossom Halloween Carnival. There is lots of fun stuff to do for the family. You'll find peformances from local entertainers, a costume parade and contest with prizes. Want to get a great picture of everyone in costume? Halloween photos are available. What would a carnival be without carnival games? Check, got those. There's a special arts and crafts area for making halloween masks, and even someone on hand to tell the kiddos some scary stories....but not too scary! And so much more! One of the best Halloween events in the Valley.

Bring your significant other or family and enjoy a relaxing Sunday. Local merchants and restaurants will be selling food and goodies.

50 Cent Bottle Signing
50 Cent will be at Crown Wine & Spirits signing bottles of his Effen Vodka. You buy, he signs. Fort Lauderdale beach is easily accessible over 17th Street to the South or via Las Olas Blvd. through downtown Fort Lauderdale to the North. Rio Vista has the benefits of living in the city without being downtown.

What's the Neighborhood Like?

The community of Rio Vista is a little over 1,000 homes. The homes can range anywhere from 1,300 sq ft to 7,300 sq ft of living space. Most homes in the neighborhood have a lot of living space which makes it great for a family. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe. There is little through traffic because the people driving are most likely homeowners. A majority of the homes in Rio Vista are waterfront. If you have a boat and like to take it out then Rio Vista is a great neighborhood for you. The canals have great width and average about 125 feet wide. Since they are so wide you have more space for bigger boats. 

Just west of the neighborhood is US-1 which has a lot of shops and restaurants. The shops and restaurants are walking distance from the neighborhood or a very short drive. Rio Vista is in very central location so nothing is too far away. 

What's Going on Nearby the Rio Vista Neighborhood?

Rio Vista Neighborhood is just south of downtown and right in the mix of everything. Walking distance is the famous Las Olas Boulevard. Eat, Shop, Enjoy is the motto! 

Shop:  Moda Mario is a great place to shop for clean cut mens clothing and stylish comfortable womens clothing. Shop 603 Fashion is great place to find ahead of the trend closing. Like art? Las Olas Fine Arts is the place to find paintings, sculptures and other contemporary art.  

Eat: Great food and great drink specials are what make American Social one of the best spots to be on Los Olas. Get anything from a classic New York Strip to a truffle Mac and Cheese. On Monday's they have $5 burgers and trivia, Tuesdays you can get $4 beers and Wednesday it is Ladies night which means half off drinks and bar bites. Not in the mood for classic American food? Head over to Rocco's Tacos. Rocco's Tacos has delicious Mexican food and is of course known for their great tasting tacos. They also have a great happy hour. Daily 4pm-7pm happy hour at the bar that includes 7 por $7 bar bits and $2 off all drinks. Can't beat that! Caffe Europa is a great Italian restaurant with authentic Italian food and a fabulous wine bar. Paninis, Pasta, Pizza, you name it they have it. Can't have pizza since you are gluten free? No need to worry Caffe Europa has gluten free pizza. Some wine with dinner is always a nice treat. They have almost any wine you can think of to go with your dinner. 

Enjoy: Ever gone to a Cycle Party? CP Tours Fort Lauderdale offers Cycle Parties, Bikes, eTrikes, Kayaks and Paddleboards. Stop on by to have some fun with your friends and family. Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi is a fun experience that takes you to different destinations on the river and intracoastal. One of those stops is right on Los Olas Blvd. Fort Lauderdale is a beautiful city and has lots of great scenery. See it all on the Water Taxi. Planet Massage is a relaxation oasis. They offer a Couples Massage, Chair Massage, Aromatherapy Chill Massage and even a Girlfriend Getaway Signature Massage. 

Publix, one of the best grocery stores in the nation is just down the street on 17th Street Causeway. Customer Service is their top priority along with fresh food and a wonderful shopping experience. Publix has it all whether its a made-to-go sub or king snow crabs. 

Las Olas is just one of many things to do in Fort Lauderdale. The beach is only about a mile away and there are numerous things to do like fishing, kayaking and music events. What are some great local restaurants?

Tap 42

There are some great restaurants nearby all within a short five minute drive. Tap42 is a great place to grab a casual lunch or dinner. They are best known for their Sunday brunches that feature bottomless Mimosas, Bloody Mary's and Funky Buddha Floridian. Brunch is from 11am - 3pm! 15th Street Fisheries is a second to none when it comes to seafood! They have won numerous award for being the best Seafood Restaurant in the area. In 2015 they won Best Seafood Restaurant, Best Waterfront Restaurant, Best East Broward Restaurant and Best Romantic Restaurant just to name a few. In short, I am saying you need to go out to each there! On a more casual basis there is Panaretto Pizzeria. They have amazing fresh pizzas and sandwiches. The Godfather pizza is one of their best sellers. It is made of grilled marinated chicken, bacon, lettuce tomato, basil mayonnaise. 

What Schools will the Kids Attend?

Fourth of July in Broward Count FL 2016

Every year, Broward County has a great display of fireworks and fun. The 4th of July Spectacular takes place on Monday, July 4 from 12:00 to 9:30 p.m. on Fort Lauderdale Beach at A1A and Las Olas Boulevard.

The PNC Bank Kids Zone will provide non-stop energy and excitement along with plenty of music and comic relief from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. Highlights will include DJ, music, face painting, beach games and contests. Make sure to bring your appetite so you can compete in an old-fashioned hot dog eating contest. And if that doesn’t fill you up, top it off by participating in a July 4th apple pie eating contest! 

As the sun goes down, the celebration heats up with live music and entertainment. From 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., Crystal Visions of Fleetwood Mac takes the stage performing hits like "Landslide," "Dreams," and "The Chain."  Then, at 6:15 p.m., Brass Evolution takes over performing hits by Chicago, Tower of Power, Earth, Wind and Fire, and more.

Essex Tower condos come in three different layouts. The largest unit is a three bedroom, two bath followed by a two bedroom, two bath and one bedroom, one and a half bath. The larger three bedroom units are around 1,500 square feet while the two bedroom units are right around 1,225 and the smallest units are approximately 840 square feet in size. The building has been around since 1978 but most of the units are updated with tile or hardwood floors, granite countertops, updated bathrooms and impact windows. The building offers community laundry facilities but a select few units come with laundry hookups. If the units don't come with impact windows they are equipped with storm shutters to protect against a hurricane. Most of the units come with the advantage of the walk out balcony looking out over the intracoastal or ocean and sometimes both. Nothing beats just relaxing and soaking up a cool breeze at night after long day at the beach.

The Essex Tower Building is Clean and Secure

The Essex Tower has a lot to offer outside of its great units. The building offers the following amenities: Elevator, Exercise Room, Extra Storage, Heated Pool, Sauna, Library, Exterior Lighting, Trash Chute,  and even a Vehicle Wash Area. Not feeling like going to the beach but still want to lay out for a tan? Lounge by the community pool and get your tan on there just steps away from your unit.

The condo association does not allow leasing for the first year owned. If you are a "snow bird" looking to rent the place out while you are up north for the summer then you would need to wait until your second year of ownership to do that. The building also comes with great security with secure elevators, security guards and cameras around the building. Having peace of mind that your unit is protected when you are not there makes things easier for people that do not live at their unit year round.
